Eight public housing dwellings in Newcastle have been earmarked to go on the market.
The state government has confirmed the funds from the sale of the homes on Light Street, will go towards 50 new social housing properties in the Hunter.
The Department of Family and Community Services says all tenants will be offered alternative social housing, and that it will arrange and pay for removalists if needed.
