MAJOR DREDGING WORKS PLANNED FOR WALLIS LAKE

29,000 cubic metres of sand will be removed from Wallis Lake, when a major dredging project gets underway later this year.
The state government has put $175,000 towards the plan, with Great Lakes Council matching the funds dollar-for-dollar.
The work will be carried out in an area known as ‘The Step’, in the eastern navigation channel of Wallis Island.
The dredging will clear the channels, which have become sand filled and will improve water quality in lower parts of the lake.
