The Defence Department has confirmed a clean-up is underway to remove a carcinogenic chemical, which was found at its Williamtown RAAF base.
Some facilities were closed last week, after a routine workplace test detected Strontium Chromate, which is used across the world for various maintenance activities on aircraft.
Defence says Air Force personnel were released from their duties and BAE Systems Staff were relocated.
It also adds it has “maintenance processes in place to ensure that appropriate personal protective equipment and work hygiene practices are followed.”
