Residents of Fullerton Cove are breathing a sigh of relief, with a controversial petroleum exploration licence in the region expiring.
The community has long rallied against coal seam gas mining in the area, with Dart Energy abandoning its project in 2013.
The licence was sold last year, but the new titleholder failed to renew it this month.
“To see the licence disappear off the map is quite exciting,” said President of the Fullerton Cove Residents Action Group, Lindsay Clout.
