Work is finally underway to relocate Port Macquarie’s war memorial to its original location at the end of Horton Street.
The cenotaph is being moved 20 metres away from its current location on the Town Green, so it can accommodate larger crowds.
Crews were on site this morning to begin the move, which required a delicate touch.
“A bit of heart and mouth stuff, because the globe on top did fall off when it got close to the ground, but no damage was done – which is wonderful,” Port Macquarie RSL Sub-branch President Greg Laird said.
The memorial is expected to be relocated in time for Anzac Day.
