CENTRAL COAST SURFING LEGEND DIES

Barry “Magoo” McGuigan, known as one of the world’s oldest competive surfers has died at his Central Coast home aged 85.

Barry McGuigan began surfing in the 1940s and was in the vanguard of Aussie surfers who hit Hawaii in the early 60s.

The Magoo Classic longboard competition organised in his name has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research.

Barry McGuigan has endured his own battle with non Hodgkins lymphoma and used yoga and surfing to help fight his cancer.
