Paragliders contesting the Kiwi Open at Manilla’s Mount Borah yesterday managed to re-write the sport’s record books.
Pilots were set an unprecedented 214-kilometre course, and 32 of the 120 competitors managed to complete the challenge.
Brazilian Donizete Lemos won, crossing the finish line just south of Boggabilla on the Queensland border in five hours and 20 minutes.
The previous distance record for the type of event was 201 kilometres, set in the United States.
