GAS DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A RUBBISH ISSUE

A new gas collection program has been set up at Tamworth’s Waste Management Centre to try and turn rubbish into renewable energy.
The three-month trial will see methane gas collected through a series of pipes and wells, built above the decomposing landfill.
The collected gas is then flared in the grey stack, but could one day be used for electricity generation.
The site will be tested for the volume and quality of the gas produced.
