NEW HOPE FOR OUT-OF-POCKET SUBBIES

Sub-contractors in Coffs Harbour have been given a glimmer of hope that they’ll recoup some of their losses after the state government awarded the tender to St Hilliers, for an incomplete housing project on Harbour Drive.

The complex has been sitting idle for more than a year after building company Perle Constructions went belly-up.

“We’re hopeful to finish the works, and get part of our money back as much as we can, we’re going to have a meeting with them this week to finalise the details and hopefully get the best outcome for all the contractors in Coffs Harbour,” Ernie Burnett said.

Coffs Harbour sub-contractors are collectively owed about $1.6 million dollars and have only been paid five-cents in the dollar.

They’re also vowing to keep pushing for a full inquiry into the Department of Housing’s handling of Perle’s contracts.
