Sawtell Surf Life Saving Club President Leanne James has gone straight to the top with a funding request, slipping a letter under Mike Baird’s door while he was holidaying locally last week.
And it seems to have paid off – soon after, the Premier contacted her by phone.
“I said oh thank you, cos he kept saying thank you to me and I go, no “thank you” to him for ringing me up, like he was genuinely interested,” Leanne James said.
While nothing’s been promised, the club’s now optimistic it will get some of the $3.5-million needed for its redevelopment.
