AUSTRALIA’S NUCLEAR LEGACY – 60 YEARS ON
Sixty years ago, Australia entered the nuclear age.
In 1952, Liberal Prime Minister Bob Menzies agreed to let England test its new atomic bombs on a small island off Western Australia.
It would be the first of many British nuclear tests on Australian soil, but many of our servicemen who were involved believe they’ve paid a hefty price.
