MILLIONS TO BE SAVED FROM MERGERS

A merger between Tamworth and Walcha councils would save $34 million over 20 years, according to the state government.
It also claims the joining of Armidale and Guyra councils would result in $21 million in savings.
Local Government Minister Paul Toole last month released the details of 35 proposed council amalgamations.
They’ve been referred to the Office of Local Government’s Chief Executive for examination.
