It’ll be a sad end to the year for staff at Hillgrove Mine near Armidale,
following news more than 100 people will be retrenched after Christmas, in preparation for the site’s closure.
92 people will be laid off on the 27th of December, with another 14 to learn their fate later next month.
The mine has cited a growing gap between operating costs and revenue as the reason behind its decision.
