Life guards sprang into action at Nobbys Beach after a confirmed shark sighting at around 11 o’clock today.
Nobbys was closed as a precaution and the shark was identified as a hammerhead, swimming near the harbour entrance.
The beach was re-opened a short time later.
No other beaches were affected.
Nobbys, Stockton and Newcastle beaches were closed due to shark sightings last week.
