Newcastle has its first surfer on the mens’ world tour for the first time in a decade.
Merewether’s Ryan Callinan qualified for the World Surf League after finishing in the top 10 of the World Qualifying Series.
After being knocked out by Brazilian champion Gabriel Medina in his round 3 heat yesterday at Sunset , Callinan had a nailbiting wait for the other surfers’ results.
Callinan joins five new faces on the tour including fellow Aussie Jack Freestone.
