GRAFTON FARMER’S NEW HOUSE TO MAKE WAY FOR NEW JAIL

Clarence Valley Council has described the likely demolition of a farmer’s new house on land required for Grafton’s new jail, as unfortunate.
A spokesperson says the development application by 83-year-old Ben Jones was approved long before the site at Lavadia was even considered for a jail.
As reported last night on NBN News, Mr Jones says he’ll have to finish his dream home or he’ll incur a penalty under the contract.
The state government has promised market value for the property, but Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis says he’ll be recommending appropriate compensation.
