GUNNEDAH HAPPY TO SHIFT TO PARKES ELECTORATE

Gunnedah Shire Council says it has no plans to fight a proposal that would see Gunnedah move to a new federal electorate.
The Australian Electoral Commission wants to move Gunnedah from the seat of New England to Parkes.
Mayor Owen Hasler says council will discuss the issue at a workshop next month.
He admits there are some concerns about joining the larger electorate as a boundary town, but says Gunnedah does share common interests with Narrabri and Moree.
It’s not the first time the town has been moved, it has previously been part of the Paterson and Gwydir seats.
