The fight to save a 100-year-old fig tree from being cut down has come to an end, with crews moving into the Alstonville Public School site early this morning.
“The hour is nieh, it’s quite sad. I just feel for the students that are going to come back here and see this tree gone.”
The school says the tree had a 1 in 200 chance of causing a “disastrous situation”.
