JAIL TERM REDUCED FOLLOWING SEVERITY APPEAL

The former CEO of Hunter Aboriginal Childrens Services has had his jail term reduced.
Steven Larkins was given a minimum 19-month sentence last July for possessing child pornography and forging employment documents.
But today, the sentence was cut to a non-parole period of 15 months on appeal.
Larkins’ barrister was seeking a suspended sentence, arguing his client has suffered enough and is unwell.
Judge Peter Berman however stated that “the videos showed children performing sexual activities… each of those children was harmed and for that reason a custodial sentence is required”.
