TOMAGO BUSINESS EVACUATED FOLLOWING CHEMICAL SPILL

Seven people were evacuated from a Tomago-based chemical company this morning, after a potentially dangerous spill.
Emergency services were called to Custom Chemicals after 10 litres of hydrochloric acid was accidentally poured into a thousand litres of sulphric acid, which caused its container to start emitting gas.
“Crews have just been in, in fully encapsulated suits and taken readings, temperature readings re in the normal range so we’re just monitoring the situation at the moment.”
Crews have since brought the situation under control.
