A man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 42-year-old woman, at a hotel in Tighes Hill.
Police were called to the Royal Oak Hotel on Maitland Road at around 11:30 last night.
They arrested a 65-year-old man, who was later charged with sexual intercourse without consent.
He was refused bail in Newcastle Local Court today, and is due to reappear on Friday.
