BYRON KIDNAPPING AND ASSAULT TRIAL PUT ON HOLD

The trial of a man who allegedly kidnapped and assaulted a Byron Bay man last year has been postponed for the second time.

Benjamin Morris Atkins is charged with causing grievous bodily harm and detaining after an alleged assault on 48-year-old Nathan Miller in July 2011.

Atkins was listed to stand trial today, but it had to be postponed after his defence counsel fell ill – the second time illness has affected the trial.

The delay has also set back the cases against Atkins co-accused, Helen May Walsh and Angus McDonald.

A new trial date will be set next Tuesday.
