COUNCIL PUTS BRAKES CUMBALUM PRECINCT A
Ballina council is cautiously moving forward with the development of
two massive housing projects on land between the Ballina Heights Estate and Ross lane.
At this week’s meeting, councillors voted to move forward with plans for the Cumbalum Precinct B, but has put the brakes on approving Precinct A.
“At the moment there’s $95 million of infrastructure to go in on that development and councillors want to make sure the community wasn’t left holding the bulk of that.”
Council is asking the proponents to cap the cost of providing water infrastructure, sewerage and piping at $20 000 per block.
“This is a huge area and council has just spent $45 million upgrading the West Ballina treatment Plant so the area can be sewered.”
