VPA’S TOP OF THE LIST FOR MINING RELATED COUNCILS

Meanwhile, Quirindi hosted the Association of Mining Related Council’s quarterly meeting today with Voluntary Planning Agreements at the top of the agenda.

The group, which was formed in 1978, comprises 23 councils from across the state.

One of its current aims is to create a VPA template that all councils can work with when faced with a mine proposal.

“You fight for everything you get and you shouldn’t have to and some councils have been left high and dry because they didn’t know what they could actually include in a VPA, and of course no one in a mining company will tell you.”

The State government’s planning department is expected to finalise a report on the matter by June 30.
