HISTORY UNEARTHED IN NEWCASTLE

Another glimpse of Newcastle’s past has been unearthed during excavation work along the old Newcastle rail corridor.

It’s the remnants of the 1870s Market Street boat harbour, where vessels carrying produce would dock to sell their wares and supply sailing ships waiting in the port.

The site just off Scott Street, was later filled-in and the waterfront reclaimed.
