MARCH AGAINST ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY CLOSURES

Traffic was brought to a stand still in Lismore today as hundreds of people joined a peaceful march, opposing the government’s plan to close remote aboriginal communities in Western Australia.
“It just seems like, the old saying is, we’ve got to live under a white man policy and we’ve got no choice” said Elder Reginald King.
Many claim the move is ignorant, and reminiscent of the devastating assimilation policy of the 1950s.
“for the government to come in and say we’re moving you, well as Reg said, it’s like what happened to us back in the old assimilation days” said elder Ken Morgan.
