Newcastle officially got its youngest-ever councillor today, with 22-year-old Declan Clausen being declared the winner of last Saturday’s Ward Three by-election.
The Labor councillor wasted no time backing plans for a 46.9 per-cent rate hike over five years.
“The voters at this by-election were given a choice, they had a choice to cut local services or expand local services and to protect important pieces of council’s infrastructure and that we fix the infrastructure backlog, voters overwhelmingly decided to do that and they endorsed labors long term financial plan.”
