AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN PORT MACQUARIE

Finding affordable housing in Port Macquarie could be about to get a lot easier.
A joint initiative between Regional Development Australia, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Charles Sturt University, encouraging local residents to invest in granny flats was today announced.
Professor Ross Chambers says council will waive the usual establishment fees, making for a sound investment for rate payers, and an attractive housing option for students.
“The university has a special interest in this because we really need accommodation for our students and that model of accommodation is one that a lot of our students really like”.
It’s estimated the region will need 900 more beds in the next decade to accommodate the growing student population.
