TOXIC TRAPS LAID IN BALLINA NATURE RESERVE

The National Parks and Wildlife Service is warning pet owners to keep their domestic animals away from the Ballina Nature Reserve.
Toxic bait for feral pigs has been laid in Newrybar Swamp and around the reserve, north of Ballina.
The Wildlife Service hopes the baiting will help them control the number of destructive feral pigs.
“They essentially ring bark trees and destroy trees that way as well as they do what they call rooting they dig up into the soil and that can destabilise roots and trees.”
Fixed cameras will be used to make sure the pigs are taking up the bait.
