COMMITMENT TO FUND NORTHERN INLAND CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Heading back to news now, and Tamworth council says it’ll commit more than $4 million to its $17 million proposal to build a Northern Inland Centre of Excellence.
MP Kevin Anderson is also backing the sporting centre, saying he’ll press the state government for $4 million to go towards the project if re-elected.
Council’s share will pend on the sale of three sites.
“We’re proposing to sell the athletics site, which is here on the complex, the velodrome site which is over on the southern end of the CBD and also Federation Park which is a now disused sporting field in Taminda.”
The aim of the development is to bring all sporting facilities together in the one area.
“We will then have access to the very best coaches, the very best administrators so that we provide those pathways for people who want to excel and get onto the next level but also for people who want to participate in sport.”
