Woman charged as investigations continue into fatal Hunter Valley crash

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with stealing a car as investigations into a fatal car crash continue.

She is the third person to be arrested for the incident on Saturday night where the allegedly stolen Honda was involved in a police pursuit and crash that left a 17-year-old boy dead.

Highway patrol officers engaged the car at around 11.55pm on the New England Highway just north of Newcastle and became involved in a chase when it refused to stop.

Initial investigations led police to believe the car was allegedly stolen from a business in Wallsend 11km west of Newcastle.

The car, which was driven by a 14-year-old-boy, eventually crashed 100m north of Makybe Diva Street in Scone, leaving the driver and front seat passenger trapped.

The pair were freed by police, but the passenger died at the scene, whilst the driver and three passengers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 25-year-old woman was one of the passengers, and she has now been charged with travelling in a stolen car.

She was refused bail to appear before court today.

It comes after the driver and two of the passengers were charged with a range of offences yesterday.

The 14-year-old alleged driver was charged with initiating a police pursuit whilst not stopping and driving dangerously, driving a stolen vehicle, driving recklessly and furiously or speeding in a manner that dangerous, negligent driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning death, driving in a dangerous manner and aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death whilst escaping pursuit.

The 17-year-old passenger was charged with riding in a stolen vehicle.
