A Newcastle filmmaker is trying to drum up interest in a movie about one of the region’s favourite sons.
Back in town after a two-month stint in Los Angeles, Zach Garred spent the weekend filming a teaser for a film about boxer Les Darcy, based on a book by Peter Fitzsimmons.
“It’s such an American, Australian heavy story, it’s really viable avenue for a co-production, so when my career took me to Los Angeles, it’s starting to make sense that we had a crack at this at the same time.”
Garred hopes the tale will be picked up locally, or by filmmakers in Hollywood.
