POLICE ALLEGEDLY FIND D.U.I. DRIVER ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL

A man has allegedly driven into oncoming traffic while being more than six times over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

Shorlty after 2pm on Wednesday, police say a Mercedes van drove onto the wrong side of the road The Lakes Way at Tuncurry, narrowly avoiding a number of collisions.

When highway police caught up with the van, it had come to a stop near the intersection of Manning Street, Tuncurry.

The driver was asleep at the wheel.

A driver allegedly returned a reading of 0.303.

The 47-year-old Toongabbie man was charged with driving with a high range PCA and his licence was suspended.

He will appear in Forster Local Court next month.
