A group calling itself Stop the Rot has called a public gathering to air concerns over recent ICAC revelations.
Convenor Tony Brown has issued the following notice.
“All concerned citizens of the Hunter region appalled with the recent crisis, loss of confidence in our democratic process and disclosures before the ICAC are encouraged to attend a “Stop the Rot” meeting in Newcastle town hall 7.00 – 8.15 pm Thursday 21 August 2014.
The meeting is to both briefly reflect on recent extraordinary events and strongly reaffirm the ordinary peoples’ commitment to restore the core values of democracy (“one person – one vote”), the rule of law and, honesty, integrity, trust and respect back into the way we are governed at all levels of politics.
Right across Newcastle and the Hunter region, local communities are locked out of crucial non-transparent government decisions that adversely impact on their locations, amenity, welfare and small businesses.”
