A 12-year-old boy has been handed a 12-month suspended sentence for lighting two fires north of Newcastle last October.
The fires at Raymond Terrace and Heatherbrae destroyed more than 5,000-hectares of bushland, and led to evacuations and the closure of Newcastle airport.
The boy, who was 11 at the time, pleaded guilty to the charges.
