Lake Macquarie Council will tonight consider a draft submission from Glencore, to extend the underground coal mining area at its West Wallsend colliery.
The proposal would allow the mining of two additional longwall panels.
Some council staff have raised concerns over subsidence.
If council doesn’t approve the extension, it will be determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.
