The State Government is congratulating boat owners on the North Coast for embracing its lifejacket renewal program.
Member for Coffs Harbour, Andrew Fraser says it was the biggest boating safety initiative rolled out across the state and the government believes it has contributed to a reduction in drownings.
Boating fatalities are down 63 percent over the past year – six this year compared with 16 last year.
2,800 old lifejackets were handed in across New South Wales and more than 3,000 new light weight vests were purchased.
