Former Premier Barry O’Farrell has taken aim at the Catholic Church, over the way it handled allegations of child sex abuse in the Hunter.
Mr O’Farrell addressed the issue in state parliament last night, while responding to the report handed down by the Special Commission of Inquiry.
He called for Bishop Brian Lucas to retire or stand down over how he dealt with the allegations.
“It’s time the catholic bishops took a strong stand against clergy abuse in the church and sent a clear message about the responsibility of all its leaders to report crimes to police.”
