Hunter New England Health is urging people to be wary of mosquitoes, with recent wet weather causing a rise in breeding.
In the past month, there have been five confirmed cases of Ross River Virus and the same number of Barmah Forest infections across the health area.
To prevent mosquito bites, we’re being warned to avoid being outside before dawn and after dusk without wearing insect repellent, and to wear loose fitting clothing that covers arms and legs.
