Greater Taree City councillors have unanimously supported a proposal to introduce an environmental levy to help fund key projects.
Council is seeking to implement a five per cent special rate variation, which would equate to around 91-cents extra per week for the average household and $3.14 per week for businesses.
It will now make a formal application to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal.
“There’s some very complicated forms that need to be sorted out between now and March and we’ll go through that formal process. We won’t know as a council until towards the end of June whether we are successful or not.”
