A University of Newcastle research project has made Time Magazine’s 25 best inventions list for 20-13.
The Lazarus Project developed new technology, which means researchers can now clone tissue samples of the gastric brooding frog, and potentially bring the extinct species back to life.
The breakthrough in genome technology could mean a new era in worldwide conservation management and biodiversity, especially for frogs with the highest extinction rate of any vertebrae.
The project was the only Australian invention on the global list.
