SAVE OUR RAIL TO PRESENT PETITION TO STATE GOVERNMENT

The group fighting to keep the heavy rail line in Newcastle will today present a petition with more than 10 000 signatures to the State Government.
The Government plans to cut the rail at Newcastle and replace it with light rail, but Save our Rail want to keep and improve the line instead.
” We know we’ve got huge support and the petition seeks to retain the rail line into Newcastle Station and it also seeks to make improvements to throughout the Hunter Region.” said Joan Dawson, President of Save our Rail New South Wales.
They boarded the train for Sydney this morning armed with their box of signatures to present to Member for Wallsend Sonia Hornery.
” We are hoping the Government will realise the huge support we have because you know…our supporter base is greater by far than the total membership of the groups that want to cut the line.” Ms Dawson said.
The group argues that a cut to the line will inconvenience those coming from outer regions including Maitland, Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast, causing time delays for workers.
