I am so happy for my fellow graduates who have jobs. Unfortunately I have missed out at this point and am worried about how I will maintain requirements for registration. I would be VERY happy to have part time work rather than none which is what I have at the moment. I can’t understand why there are so many university places available, yet few job opportunities. I also have seen first hand, while on placement during my training, how important it is to have adequate nurses rostered each shift. I believe that the nurse/patient ratio needs improving, as I have seen the negative effect of short staffing on the morale and ongoing care of patients. Since my last placement at the end of 2012, staff numbers have been reduced even further. This country needs to admit that it can’t afford free health care, and needs to implement forced private health insurance so more medical staff can be employed, and those in need can access first class health care.
