FUNDING BLOW FOR NEWCASTLE COUNCIL AS FEDERAL GRANT IS WITHDRAWN

A federal grant worth just over $1-million to replace the Merewether Baths pavilion has been withdrawn.
$150-million in Regional Development Australia grants for councils had been approved by the previous Labor Government and included in the budget.
The Coalition has now reneged.
“It seems now they’re in government they’re still saying no to jobs, no to community infrastructure, no to regional communities, no to local government,” Opposition Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese said today.
The $1-million grant to Newcastle Council was to cover a new pavilion, shelters and seating.
Council says it hasn’t been told it won’t get the money.
