Newcastle’s Westpac 1 helicopter has been pressed into service as an emergency aircraft for the Sydney bushfire emergency.
The chopper has airlifted a seriously injured child from Avoca to the Westmead Hospital.
The boy aged about 10, suffered multiple injuries as the result of being hit by a car.
Westpac 2 remains on call for Hunter and Mid North Coast emergency responses.
