President of the Northern Rivers Organisation of Councils, Jenny Dowell will become the region’s transport voice.
Earlier this week she was given a position on a six member panel that will advise the Federal Government on issues surrounding the development of High Speed Rail.
“I would like to think that I have the interests of the whole region at heart and the ability to gather community views and feed that in to the advisory group.”
The idea is for Australia to have a high speed rail line connecting Brisbane to Melbourne by 2040, with possible stops at Casino and Grafton.
“It’s a long process I won’t be around to see it but i think it’s an opportunity to talk about community needs and input about the consultation period.”
