- The motive behind a driver allegedly ramming a van into the Australian Christian Lobby’s Canberra headquarters overnight was not political, religious or ideological, according to police. A van was driven into the building in Deakin last and burst into flames. It was reportedly carrying gas bottles. Its driver was the only person injured in the crash.
- A man has drowned while canoeing in a lake north-west of Brisbane, after a wild storm ripped through the area.
- There’s a new weapon in the battle against bushfires this season, with high-tech cameras being installed across remote and fire-prone parts of New South Wales today.
- Crews preparing for this year’s Sydney to Hobart Yacht race have been given a detailed weather briefing this morning. It’s looking like a fast start to the race with a strong North easter predicted to push the fleet down the coast on Boxing Day.
- And early risers in Newcastle were surprised to see a hot air balloon floating low over Newcastle harbour this morning. It was an annual festive flight by Balloon Aloft. The crew managed to land at Lambton Park.
