REPORT RELEASED ON CONTAMINATED SOIL

A report into the handling of contaminated soil which caused workers on the Heron’s Creek to Stills Road Pacific Highway upgrade to fall ill last year has been released.
Conducted by an independent environmental consultant, it reveals more communication was needed between Roads and Maritime Services and its contractor BMD Constructions.
What’s believed to be the toxic remnants of a 1980 truck crash was unearthed during the start of the upgrade.
Remediation work has since been carried out, and recent testing has shown no traces of remaining contamination.
