SWELL SCULPTURE FESTIVAL HERE TO STAY

Currumbin’s popular Swell Sculpture festival is secure for at least the next three years, thanks to more than 100-thousand dollars in Council funding.

The money will help organisers raise the event’s profile and attract international artists.

Council has also hinted at more support.

“As a city we should look at some of the pieces and acquire it and have it as a permanent part in other places of the city”

The 10 day festival is held in September.

Swell is a fantastic sculpture show that needs to focus more on helping local sculptors to produce, insure and transport their work instead of feeding the bureaucrats and accountant that run the show.

Of the hundreds of thousands of dollars needed to run Swell every year only $15.000.00 are given to one sculptor every year, the rest is swollen by admin.
