A man in his early 20s has died after being attacked by a shark on the state’s far north coast.
A group of surfers pulled the man from the water at Shelly Beach in Ballina just before 10 o’clock this morning.
They administered first aid, but he couldn’t be saved.
The man’s next of kin is being notified.
Beaches from South Ballina to Lennox Head are now closed.
